Aikido - Harmony in Movement

O'Sensei Morihei Uyeshiba Aikido is a dynamic and non-aggressive martial art, which was developed by Master Morihei Uyeshiba (1883-1969) out of the traditional Japanese martial art forms (e.g. Daito-Ryu and Kenjutsu). The term Aikido can be translated as a way ("Do") to harmonize ("Ai") your body with your spiritual energy ("Ki").
In Aikido practice there is no competition. The opponent's energy is not blocked, but allowed to return to him. Any attack will be guided into circular or spiral movements, which break your opponent's balance. In this way, you can control your opponent. The highest level in Aikido is to anticipate an attack, allowing you to make it ineffective. This spiritual development of body and mind requires many years of training. Following Master Ueshiba's thoughts; being undefeatable means the absence of all fixed thoughts and through this, finding a way to yourself.
Aikido can be practiced by men and women of all ages. Physical strength is not essential, but desire and commitment to practice.

Tendoryu - The School of the Heavenly Road

Kenji Shimizu One of the greatest students of O'Sensei Morihei Uyeshiba was Kenji Shimizu (born in 1940). Between 1962 and 1967 Shimizu Sensei was an uchideshi (inside student) for the Founder and was exposed to Aikido at its highest level. After the death of O'Sensei, Shimizu Sensei founded Tendoryu Aikido in the beginning of the 1970's. His dojo is currently located in Tokyo and is named the Tendokan. Since the end of the 70's, Master Shimizu has travelled to Europe regularly, especially Germany, to teach his way of Aikido.
Tendoryu Aikido is noted for its large and well-defined techniques which reflect a naturalness and harmony of movement.

Aikido in Harburg

BOP The Aikido group in Harburg has been training since 1995. During this time, the group also has begun a children's class. At the present time, the dojo has grown to 50 members.
One of the members from the beginning, Björn Ole Pfannkuche, became leader of the group in January 2000. After studying several Budo disciplines (e.g. Judo and Iaido) he is now fully concentrating on Tendoryu Aikido and received his 2nd Dan from Shimizu Sensei in 2007.
